Frequently asked questions

What kind of laser is needed for single-line TDLAS?

The physical requirement is uncompromising: a single-frequency, continuous-wave source whose linewidth sits well below the pressure-broadened linewidth, tunable smoothly across the line.

Can a broad-linewidth pulsed laser resolve an individual gas line?

A pulsed source several wavenumbers wide cannot resolve an individual line and is not a TDLAS source.

Does the Firefly IR family cover 1.4–8.5 µm continuously?

The validated platform's quoted 1.4–8.5 µm is the model-family envelope — not continuous coverage.

Why use a pulsed laser for standoff gas imaging?

Brightness and peak power set the usable range, and pulsed operation adds time-gating against ambient background. Broader linewidth is tolerable here: on/off-band differential imaging does not require single-line resolution.
